College Scholarships from Making Hope Happen Foundation

It is becoming common knowledge that higher education, whether a university degree or advanced technical training, is required for a successful career in today’s economy.  The Making Hope Happen Foundation, which supports the San Bernardino City Unified School District, is committed to helping every student who graduates from their schools to succeed in college and career by recognizing that part of their success comes from their ability to pay for tuition and books and in some cases to remove other financial barriers that prevent them from completing this important journey.

“Scholarships are especially valuable to our students because, as you may know, San Bernardino is the second poorest city in the nation. Most of our students live in poverty.  Scholarships are extremely meaningful to our kids. They remove financial barriers and infuse confidence in students who now have a greater belief that they can succeed, because we told them we believed they could with our investment in their future.  In short, scholarships are powerful ingredients in our foundation’s recipe of hope.” – Ginger Ontiveros, Executive Director Community Engagement SBCUSD

The John P. Previti Memorial Foundation recently donated to Making Hope Happen Foundation’s Annual Gala which included a silent art auction, musical entertainment, a buffet dinner and dessert bar.

“The Making Hope Happen Foundation is honored that you have chosen to help us support the higher aspiration goals of our students.  As a result of fundraising from the gala event held last May, we were able to provide scholarships to 26 students. Each award is based on the cost to complete two years at a community college.  Each recipient not only receives the funding to support their educational journey, but also is being matched with a mentor to help them navigate the college system.  This structure will allow us to better track their success and of course to share that success with partners like you who have invested in their future.” – Ginger Ontiveros, Executive Director Community Engagement SBCUSD
